India’s salon sector is moving away from a service-driven model toward one shaped by digital tools and demand for premium treatments. This shift was a central theme at the sixth edition of Cosmoprof India, which brought together 353 exhibitors and 800 brands from 23 countries, with visitor numbers expected to exceed 14,000.
Industry representatives cited the growing role of Tier 2 and Tier 3 cities, where clients are seeking specialised services. Salon chains said this trend is pushing the market toward more standardised and tech-integrated formats.
According to Looks Salon CEO Samir Srivastava, technology is now a factor in how customers choose salons. He said clients are moving toward outlets that use digital tools to strengthen trust and indicate a modern approach. Smart mirrors and diagnostic tools, he said, are beginning to influence consultations. Srivastava added that while the industry relies on human skill, AI is becoming part of efforts to improve efficiency, customer interactions and retention.
Lakmé Salons CEO and Director Vipul Chaturvedi said the premium segment is expanding due to rising interest in advanced services across skincare, hair and makeup. He pointed to demand from smaller cities and said technology upgrades in consultations, tools, inventory and loyalty systems have helped streamline operations and stabilise service delivery.
Enrich Salons Founder Vikram Bhatt said the industry is at a transition point. He said the market is moving toward an experience-led, tech-enabled ecosystem, with AI supporting personalisation, decision-making and standardisation across metros and emerging markets.
Envi Salon Founder Renu Kant said AI is enabling salons to anticipate client needs before appointments. She referenced its use in virtual consultations, skin and hair analysis, recommendation engines and reminders, which together support more tailored services.
Naturals Salon & Spa Co-founder and CMD CK Kumaravel said AI is influencing how businesses study behaviour patterns and manage routine operations. He noted that although the sector depends on human interaction, digital tools are becoming part of productivity and personalisation efforts.
Event organisers also pointed to shifts in the broader beauty market. Yogesh Mudras, Managing Director of Informa Markets in India, said a young population and interest in science-led products are reshaping expectations. Enrico Zannini, General Manager of BolognaFiere Cosmoprof, said the pace of expansion reflects interest in innovation, sustainability and wellness.
This year’s Cosmoprof India featured nine international country pavilions, with Italy as Country of Honour. The Italian showcase, organised by the Italian Trade Agency and Cosmetica Italia, focused on product development, design and manufacturing capabilities.
